PARENTS JAILED FOR BEATING DAUGHTER BECAUSE SHE HAD BLACK BOYFRIEND

07/08/2012
A man and woman have been jailed in the United Kingdom for beating their daughter because she was dating a black man.
Jane Champion, 17 at the time of the attack, was repeatedly punched in the face and had her hair pulled by parents David and Frances in a racist assault, reports the Daily Mail.
Her boyfriend Aflonce Ncube was kicked in the legs and verbally racially abused.
Mr Champion, of Swansea, was jailed for 12 months and his wife for ten months.
The first attack occurred when Mr and Mrs Champion returned to their house to find their daughter with Mr Ncube, reportedly in a 'state of undress'.
Mr Champion shouted racist abuse at him before kicking him and pushing him out the door.
He then started to hit his daughter for "bringing shame to the family", a court heard.
The second attack occurred a month later when the parents confronted their daughter in a bar and asked her if she was still with Mr Ncube. When she said she was, Mr Champion punched her in the face, Swansea Crown Court heard.
The court also heard her mother said: "You deserve it. It is all your fault" before starting to assault her daughter.
Mr and Mrs Champion then went to look for Mr Ncube, who worked as a waiter in a Swansea restaurant. He hid as they banged on the window, until they were eventually removed.
Judge Peter Heywood said: "We live in a liberal and enlightened society and these sorts of racist behaviour cannot be tolerated.
"The way you reacted was totally inappropriate.
"I would be failing in my public duty if I was to do anything other than to impose a custodial sentence."
John Hipkin, defending David Champion, said: "It's not excusable in any way, shape or form but the circumstances in which he found his young daughter meant he reacted in a terrible way. Lessons have been learned."
Georgina Buckley, defending Frances Champion, said the attack was "disgraceful".
"She accepts her actions were fuelled by alcohol and that she confronted her daughter in a wholly unacceptable and disgusting way," she added.
"She is remorseful and her daughter has sent her a text message before the court hearing wishing her well."
